Magnetic van der Waals materials offer new perspectives on magneto-optic effects. The interplay of excitons and magnetic order, and exciton-magnon coupling manifests in a variety of novel responses. First, I will discuss the elemental role of strong light-matter coupling and exciton-polaritons in the context of the optical properties of the layered magnetic semiconductor CrSBr. Then, I will also present our latest progress in understanding the impact of magnons on the propagation of excitons.
